India  has faced many battles/ wars since time immemorial. These battles influenced our culture in a significant manner. These battles in Indian history were fought between different dynasties and kingdoms.

List of the important battles fought in Indian history are below :-

1) Battle of Hydaspes 326 BC Greek ruler Alexander the great defeated king Porus on bank of Jhelum river.  
2) Kalinga war 261 BC Ashoka defeated king of Kalinga. In this battle lot of bloodshed occurred which changed the mindset of Ashoka and he embraced Buddhism.
3) Sindh war 712 AD Muhammad Bin Qasim defeated Dahir(king of Sindh).
4) Battle of Peshawar 1001 Mahmud Ghazni defeated Jayapala (ruler of Punjab.)
5) First battle of Tarain 1191 Prithviraj Chauhan defeated Muhammad Ghori.
6) 2nd battle of Tarain 1192 Muhammad Ghori defeated Prithviraj Chauhan.
7) First battle of Panipat 1526 Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi.
8) Battle of Khanwa 1527 Babur defeated Rana Sanga(ruler of Mewar).
9) Battle of Chanderi 1528 Babur defeated Medini Rai(ruler of Malwa)  
10) Battle of Ghaghra 1529 Babur defeated Mahmud Lodhi(Afghan leader) and Sultan Nusrat Shah(ruler of Bengal)
11) Battle of Chausa 1539 Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun.
12) Battle of Bilgram or Kannauj 1540 Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun again.
13) 2nd battle of Panipat 1556 Akbar defeated Hema Chandra Vikramaditya or Hemu.
14) Battle of Talikota 1565 Combined forces of four allied Muslim Sultans of Bijapur, Bedar, Ahmadnagar and Golconda defeated the Hindu raja of Vijayanagar.
15) Battle of Haldighati or Battle of Gogunda 1576 Fought between Maharana Pratap and Akbar. Here, from Akbar side Raja Man Singh 1 of Amber fought. This battle was a futile victory for the Mughals as they could not capture the great Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap.
16) Battle of Samugarh 1658 Aurengzeb defeated Dara Shikoh(eldest son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan)
17) Battle of Karnal 1739 Nadir shah defeated Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah Rangeela.
18) Battle of Plassey 1757 English forces under Clive defeated Siraj-ud-daula(Nawab of Bengal) with the help of Mir Jafar.
19) Battle of Wandiwash 1760 British decisively defeated the French in India. There were 3 Carnatic wars fought between English and French and this battle was a part of 3rd Carnatic war. After this war, French remains mere only a trading company.
20) 3rd battle of Panipat 1761 Ahmad Shah Abdali defeated Marathas.
21) Battle of Buxar 1764 English forces under Hector Munro defeated army of alliance of 3 states including Bengal, Awadh and Mughal empire.
